Communication as a sociocultural process is fundamental in the life of human beings, since it is a cross-cutting element in the development of societies. Between culture and communication there is a deep association that forges cultural identities through personal, collective and direct interactions, as well as through exposure to traditional mass media and new information and communication technologies.
This presentation is an extract from the research called: Communication and Cultural Identity in adolescents from Caserío Conache - Laredo district, based on the Cultural Approach; carried out under the need to identify the communicational practices that intervene in the construction of the cultural identity of adolescents in a rural setting (Conache), which is located in the Laredo district, Trujillo Province in Peru.
The study design is qualitative, whose method used was the ethnographic one. The units - research subject were made up of 30 students from the secondary level of Educational Institution No. 80869 Alm. Miguel Grau Seminario de Conache, chosen according to the established criteria (age, gender, educational level and address) from 1st to 5th grade. They constituted the case-type sample.
To obtain the results, we used participant observation, five focus groups with an average of six members each (three women and three men) and the personalized application of a questionnaire as an interview (as a quantitative support resource).
One of the most important conclusions of the present study is that the interactions of adolescents with their peers and relatives determine the permanence of traditional cultural patterns and / or certain elements of urban socio-cultural processes that are incorporated into their cultural identity. The content of the information media is influential in the adoption of forms of verbal expression, tastes and preferences in personal grooming. Information and Communication Technologies are necessary to facilitate your life and achieve academic and family goals. This means that there is a growing recognition and inclination for the technological in their cultural identity.
